AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 16-13-181 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT PERSONS DAMAGED BY VIOLATIONS OF THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 16-13-180, RELATING TO RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS, MAY BRING A LEGAL ACTION FOR TRIPLE DAMAGES AGAINST PERSONS GUILTY OF SUCH VIOLATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Injured persons may bring action for triple damages

Section 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 16-13-181. Any person who has been injured or suffered damages because of a violation of Section 16-13-180 may bring an action in the circuit court against the person convicted of the violation for three times the amount of damages suffered, if any, plus costs of the action and reasonable attorney fees."

Time Effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
