AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 44-9-60, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO SUPERINTENDENTS OF HOSPITALS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH, SO AS TO DELETE REFERENCES TO MIDLANDS CENTER AND THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE SUPERINTENDENTS BE MEDICAL DOCTORS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Commissioner may appoint superintendent

Section 1. Section 44-9-60 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 44-9-60. The State Commissioner of Mental Health may appoint a superintendent of each hospital, with the approval of the Mental Health commission. Each superintendent shall be knowledgeable in the treatment of the mentally ill and in hospital administration. The superintendent of each institution under the jurisdiction of the Department of Mental Health shall be responsible for the employment of all personnel at the institution, subject to the approval of the State Commissioner of Mental Health. The State Commissioner may serve superintendent of one or more hospitals or other mental health facilities."

Time Effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon approval of the Governor.
