AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 43-5-340, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE INVESTIGATION BY THE COUNTY DEPARTMENTS OF SOCIAL SERVICES OF APPLICATIONS FOR GENERAL ASSISTANCE, SO AS TO MAKE A VISIT TO THE HOME OF THE APPLICANT PERMISSIVE INSTEAD OF REQUIRED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Investigation and record to be made

Section 1. Section 43-5-340 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 43-5-340. Whenever the county department receives an application for assistance under this article, an investigation and record shall promptly be made of the circumstances of the applicant in order to ascertain the facts supporting the application and in order to obtain such other information as may be required by the rules of the state department. The investigation may include a visit to the home of the applicant if deemed necessary by the caseworker or supervisor."

Time effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
