AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE LEVY OF SUFFICIENT MILLAGE, NOT TO EXCEED ONE MILL, BY THE LAURENS COUNTY AUDITOR TO PROVIDE FOR A TWENTY PERCENT SUPPLEMENT FOR THE COUNTY LUNCHROOM SUPERVISOR AND ATTENDANCE TEACHER AND ESTABLISH A SPECIAL FUND TO BE INVESTED WITH THE INTEREST THEREON TO BE USED JOINTLY WITH THE TAX LEVY FOR PAYMENT OF THE SALARY SUPPLEMENTS AND OTHER EXPENSES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Auditor to levy millage
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, in Laurens County the county auditor shall levy sufficient millage beginning with the year 1982 and in every year thereafter on behalf of the county board of education to provide for a twenty percent supplement to the compensation of the county lunchroom supervisor and attendance teacher or to provide for other expenses as authorized and determined by the Laurens County Board of Education. Provided, however, that the millage authorized by this section shall not exceed one mill in any fiscal year. If such tax millage is used to fund the twenty percent supplement, this supplement shall be based on the compensation of such personnel for fiscal year 1980-81 and shall be in the same dollar amount from year to year if the tax millage is used in future years to fund such supplement. In addition, such supplement may be paid beginning with fiscal year 1981-82.
Treasurer to establish special fund
SECTION 2. The county treasurer shall use the proceeds of the tax millage authorized in Section 1 to establish a special fund and shall invest such fund to obtain the highest possible interest rate thereon. The interest obtained from such investment shall also be deposited in the fund and shall be invested or used along with the proceeds of the tax levy to pay the salary supplements or other expenses authorized by Section 1 of this act.
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
Approved the 27th day of August, 1981.
