AN ACT TO REAPPORTION OCONEE COUNTY FOR PURPOSES OF ELECTING MEMBERS TO THE OCONEE COUNTY COUNCIL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Election districts reapportioned
Section 1. Section 1 of Act 871 of 1976 is amended to read:
"Section 1. One member of the governing body of Oconee County shall be elected from each of the following defined single-member election districts:

Terms
Section 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, for purposes of the 1982 general election, only successors to those two council members whose terms expire in 1982 shall be elected and the other three council members shall continue to serve until their current terms expire in 1984. One such member shall be elected in 1982 from each of the defined single-member election districts established pursuant to Section 1 of this act in which the present council members whose terms expire in 1982 now reside and their successors shall then be elected in the general election every four years thereafter from such election districts.
For purposes of the 1984 general election, successors to those three council members whose terms expire in 1984 shall be elected. One such member shall be elected in 1984 from each of the defined single-member election districts established pursuant to Section 1 of this act in which the present council members whose terms expire in 1984 now reside and their successors shall then be elected in the general election every four years thereafter from such election districts.
Nothing herein contained in this section shall prevent any member from succeeding himself and all members so elected shall serve for terms of four years each and until their successors are elected and qualify.
Time effective
Section 3. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
