AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 385 OF 1977, RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS FOR THE GOVERNING BODY OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SO AS TO REAPPORTION SUCH DISTRICTS AND PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS TO COUNTY COUNCIL; TO PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY FROM THE REAPPORTIONED ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH MEMBERS OF THE WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY COUNCIL ARE TO BE ELECTED.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Election districts for the governing body of Williamsburg County reapportioned
Section 1. Section 1 of Act 385 of 1977 is amended to read:
"Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, commencing with the 1982 general election, one member of the governing body of Williamsburg County shall be elected from each of the following defined single-member election districts:

Terms
Section 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, one member of the county council shall be elected from each of the districts reapportioned in Section 1 for terms of four years; provided, however, that of those initially elected in the general election of 1982, only four members who received the highest number of votes shall serve terms of four years and the remaining three members elected shall serve terms of two years.
School districts of Williamsburg County--election districts reapportioned, etc.
Section 3. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, commencing with the 1982 general election one member of the School District of Williamsburg County shall be elected from each of the reapportioned single-member election districts from which members of the Williamsburg County Council are elected as provided in Section 1; provided, however, that of those initially elected in the general election of 1982, only four members who received the highest number of votes shall serve terms of four years and the remaining three members elected shall serve terms of two years. The terms of the two at-large members of the school district shall not be affected by the provisions of this act.
Time effective
Section 4. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
