AN ACT TO REAPPORTION THE DEFINED SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF BAMBERG COUNTY ARE ELECTED AND TO PROVIDE TERMS FOR THOSE MEMBERS ELECTED IN 1982.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

County council reapportionment

Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, commencing with the 1982 general election, one member of the governing body of Bamberg County and one member of the Allendale County Board of Education shall be elected from each of the following defined election districts:

Terms

Section 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, for purposes of the 1982 general election, only successors to those three council members shall continue to serve until their current terms expire in 1984. One such member shall be elected in 1982 from each of the districts in Section 1 in which the present council members whose terms expire in 1982 now reside and their successors shall then be elected in the general election every four years thereafter from such districts.

For purposes of the 1984 general election, successors to those four council members shall be elected in 1984 from each of the defined districts in which the present council members whose terms expire in 1984 now reside and their successors shall then be elected in the general election every four years thereafter from such districts.

Nothing in Section 1 shall prevent any member from succeeding himself and all members so elected shall serve for terms of four years and until their successors are elected and qualify.

Time effective

Section 3. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
