AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-17-1245 SO AS TO PERMIT PERSONS ENGAGED IN MARICULTURE OPERATIONS TO HARVEST, POSSESS, AND SELL SHELLFISH AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Definition

Section 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 50-17-1245. As used in this section, 'mariculture' shall mean the controlled cultivation in confinement of marine and estuarine organisms.

Notwithstanding any other provisions of this chapter, the Division of Marine Resources may grant permission to persons engaged in mariculture operations to harvest, have in possession, and sell shellfish at any time during the year."

Time effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
