AN ACT TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO REMOVE FROM THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM THAT PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 609 INSIDE THE TOWN LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF PAGELAND IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY AND TO ELIMINATE ACCESS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 609 INSIDE THE TOWN OF PAGELAND TO THE BYPASS OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS 9 AND 151; AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 609 SO REMOVED SHALL REVERT TO THE TOWN OF PAGELAND WHICH SHALL ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR MAINTENANCE OF THE PORTION SO REMOVED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Portion of road removed from highway system

Section 1. The Department of Highways and Public Transportation shall remove from the State Highway System that portion of South Carolina Highway 609 which is inside the town limits of the Town of Pageland in Chesterfield County and shall eliminate access from South Carolina Highway 609 inside the Town of Pageland to the bypass of South Carolina Highways 9 and 151.

Responsibility for maintenance

Section 2. After the portion of South Carolina Highway 609 is removed from the State Highway System pursuant to Section 1 of this act, it shall revert to the Town of Pageland, which shall assume responsibility for maintenance of that portion of South Carolina Highway 609 so removed from the State Highway System.

Time effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
