A JOINT RESOLUTION TO DESIGNATE A ROAD IN LANCASTER COUNTY AS "W. BRUCE WILLIAMS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
Whereas, the late W. Bruce Williams was a successful businessman and public servant who made many lasting and significant contributions to the improvement and welfare of Lancaster County and the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the late Senator Williams, a native and lifelong resident of Heath Springs, had a long and distinguished career in public service which began in 1934 as a member of the Town Council of Heath Springs and continued on the local level with service on the Board of Commissioners of Lancaster County and Board of Trustees of Heath Springs schools; and
Whereas, Bruce Williams was a member of the House of Representatives, serving Lancaster County in the years 1941 and 1942 and his political career culminated by his election to and service in the Senate of South Carolina during the years 1947 through 1962; and
Whereas, because of his distinguished business and political career the members of the General Assembly have decided that, as a fitting tribute to this outstanding Lancaster County citizen, U.S. Highway 521 from the southern city limits of the City of Lancaster to the Kershaw-Lancaster County line should be designated the "W. Bruce Williams Memorial Highway". Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Highway named
SECTION 1. U. S. Highway 521 from the southern city limits of the City of Lancaster to the Kershaw-Lancaster county line is designated the "W. Bruce Williams Memorial Highway". The Department of Highways and Public Transportation shall install appropriate markers or signs at places along such highway as it deems advisable containing the words "W. Bruce Williams Memorial Highway".
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
