AN ACT TO REAPPORTION THE SINGLE MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FROM WHICH SCHOOL TRUSTEES ARE ELECTED AND TO REPEAL SECTION 1 OF ACT 737 OF 1976, RELATING TO SINGLE MEMBER ELECTION AREAS FROM WHICH MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ARE ELECTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

School board election districts

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, for the purpose of electing the Board of Trustees of the School District of Greenville County, the school district is divided into twelve single member election districts as follows:

Elections, unexpired terms

SECTION 2. The single member election districts established in Section 1 of is act shall be effective for all elections for school board trustees held on or after January 1, 1982; provided, however, that if the reapportionment of such election districts results in two currently serving trustees being from the same election district, both trustees shall continue to serve until the successor trustee from that district is next elected and takes office as provided in an act of 1981 bearing ratification number 222; provided, further, that if the reapportionment of such election

districts results in no currently serving trustee being from a particular election district, a vacancy in such office shall exist which may be filled as provided by law until a trustee from that district is next elected and takes office as provided in an act of 1981 bearing ratification number 222.

The term "single member school election area" or similar term as used in an act of 1981 bearing ratification number 222 shall be construed to mean the same as the term "single member election district" or a similar term as used in this act.

Repeal

SECTION 3. Section 1 of Act 737 of 1976 is repealed.

Time effective

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
