AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 12-37-220, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO GENERAL EXEMPTIONS FROM PROPERTY TAXES, SO AS TO EXEMPT PERSONAL MOTOR VEHICLES OF RECIPIENTS OF THE MEDAL OF HONOR AND PERSONS REQUIRED TO USE WHEELCHAIRS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Recipients of Medal of Honor exempt from personal property tax

Section 1. Section 12-37-220 of the 1976 Code, as amended is further amended by adding an appropriately numbered item to read:

"( ) All personal motor vehicles owned by recipients of the Medal of Honor for which special license tags have been issued by the Department of Highways and Public Transportation under the provisions of Article 16 of Chapter 3 of Title 56 shall be exempt from state, county and municipal taxes."

Further

Section 2. Section 12-37-220 of the 1976 Code, as amended, is further amended by adding an appropriately numbered item to read:

"( ) All personal motor vehicles, owned by persons required to use wheelchairs, for which special license tags have been issued by the Department of Highways and Public Transportation under the provisions of Section 56-3-1910 shall be exempt from state, county, and municipal taxes."

Time effective

Section 3. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
