AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE LEVY OF TAXES FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES IN BERKELEY COUNTY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1983-84, TO PROVIDE FOR AN ADDITIONAL TAX FOR THE RETIREMENT OF SCHOOL BONDS, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE FUTURE ISSUANCE OF BONDS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Tax levy for school purposes

SECTION 1. There is levied on all the taxable property of the Berkeley County School District for the calendar year 1983 a tax of fifty-nine mills, the proceeds of which shall be used for general school purposes for the fiscal year 1983-84, such purposes to be set forth in the county school budget for the fiscal year to be adopted as provided by law. The tax shall be assessed and collected as other property taxes are assessed and collected.

Additional tax

SECTION 2. There is levied on all the taxable property of the Berkeley County School District for the calendar year 1983 an additional tax of eleven mills, the proceeds of which shall be used for the retirement of school bonds as required to meet obligations incurred prior to the effective date of this act.

Approval by delegation

SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law, the Berkeley Legislative Delegation shall approve the future issuance of any additional school bonds.

Time effective

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
