AN ACT TO PROMOTE MAJOR GENERAL GRADY L. PATTERSON, JR., TO THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT GENERAL EFFECTIVE UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA AIR NATIONAL GUARD.

Whereas, Major General Grady L. Patterson, Jr., has for fortyone years served his State and nation as a member of the South Carolina Air National Guard and the United States Air Force with loyalty, dedication, and distinction; and

Whereas, General Patterson has served the people of the State of South Carolina and the nation with great zeal and diligence as fighter pilot, squadron commander, Chief of Staff of the South Carolina Air National Guard, and Assistant to Commander of United States Air Force Logistics Command; and

Whereas, the President of the United States of America awarded General Patterson the Distinguished Service Medal, the nation's highest peacetime award, for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility; and

Whereas, General Patterson is the only person in the thirty-sixyear history of the South Carolina Air National Guard to attain the grade of Major General; and

Whereas, General Patterson has retired from the South Carolina Air National Guard, and the members of the General Assembly wish to demonstrate their esteem and admiration for this dedicated South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Promotion

SECTION 1. Major General Grady L. Patterson, Jr., is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General of the South Carolina Air National Guard effective upon his retirement from the South Carolina Air National Guard.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
