AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF CALHOUN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SHALL, AFTER PUBLIC HEARING, ADOPT THE SCHOOL BUDGET FOR SCHOOL YEAR 1984-1985 AND SUBMIT THE BUDGET TO THE CALHOUN COUNTY COUNCIL FOR APPROVAL AND THE COUNCIL SHALL SET THE MILLAGE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Powers of board

SECTION 1. In addition to the powers and duties of the board of trustees of the School District of Calhoun County provided by law, the board shall prepare and adopt the budget for the operation of the district for the 1984-85 school year. The board shall conduct a public hearing prior to adopting a budget and shall advertise the hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the county at least seven days prior to the hearing. The advertisement shall state that the board will meet on a day, at a time and place fixed in the advertisement for the purpose of hearing comments regarding the school budget for the next school year. At least thirty days prior to adopting the budget, the board shall furnish a copy of the proposed budget to each member of the Calhoun County Council and each member of the Calhoun County Legislative Delegation. After adopting the budget, and no later than the first day of August, 1984, the board shall furnish the Calhoun County Council a copy of the budget by the board.

Board to prepare annual budget

SECTION 2. For school year 1984-1985, the board shall prepare an annual budget for general school purposes and submit the budget for approval to the Calhoun County Council. The council, after approving the budget, shall set the necessary tax millage, and no later than the first day of September, 1984, furnish a copy of the budget, and a certification of the tax millage set by the council to the auditor and treasurer of Calhoun County.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor,
