AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 848 OF 1976, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE ELECTION AND COMPOSITION OF THE LANCASTER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION AND THE AREA BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE COUNTY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE TERMS OF ALL MEMBERS ELECTED TO AREA BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE COUNTY EXPIRE ON DECEMBER 31, 1984, AND THAT MEMBERS OF SUCH BOARDS BE INITIALLY ELECTED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION OF 1984 FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Terms

SECTION 1. Section 4 of Act 848 of 1976, as last amended by an act of 1984 bearing ratification number 282, is further amended to read:

"Section 4. The terms of all members elected to area boards of trustees shall expire on December 31, 1984. Members must be initially elected to the area boards of trustees in the general election of 1984 and shall serve for a term of two years. Thereafter, members elected to these offices shall serve for a term of four years and until successors are elected and qualify. Candidates shall have their names placed upon the ballot by filing with the county election commission not later than forty-five days prior to the general election."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
