AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 21-5-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ABOLITION OF TENANCY BY CURTESY, SO AS TO ABOLISH DOWER AND JOINTURE; AND TO REPEAL ARTICLES 3 THROUGH 11 OF CHAPTER 5 OF TITLE 21, RELATING TO DOWER AND JOINTURE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Tenancy by curtesy, dower and jointure abolished

SECTION 1. Section 21-5-10 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 21-5-10. Tenancy by curtesy, dower, and jointure are abolished in this State."

Repeal

SECTION 2. Articles 3 through 11 of Chapter 5 of Title 21 of the 1976 Code are repealed.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
