AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 1170 OF 1968, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE SLATER-MARIETTA FIRE DISTRICT IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF FIRE CONTROL TO EMPLOY A CHIEF AND COMPENSATE FIREMEN INSTEAD OF BEING REQUIRED TO USE VOLUNTEER FIREMEN, TO PROVIDE THAT THIS AUTHORIZATION MUST NOT BE CONSTRUED AS ALLOWING THE DISTRICT TO IMPOSE ANY TAX GREATER THAN THAT AUTHORIZED BY LAW FOR THE DISTRICT AND TO INCREASE FROM TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND TO TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS THE AMOUNT THE BOARD IS AUTHORIZED TO BORROW.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Powers of Board of Fire Control

SECTION 1. Items (c) and (h) of Section 5 of Act 1170 of 1968 are amended to read:

"(c) To employ a chief and to provide and select drivers and other firemen who shall serve to man the equipment, provided, however, the provisions of this item must not be construed as allowing the District to impose any tax greater than that authorized in Section 6.

(h) To borrow not exceeding two hundred thousand dollars on such terms and for a period as to the fire control board may consider most beneficial for the fire district in anticipation of taxes. The indebtedness must be evidenced by a note issued by the members of the board and the county treasurer. The full faith, credit, and taxing power of the Slater-Marietta Fire District is irrevocably pledged for the payment of the indebtedness."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
