AN ACT TO DESIGNATE THE OFFICE OF MAGISTRATE OF DISTRICT 8 (BAYBORO), IN HORRY COUNTY, AS A MAGISTRATE-AT-LARGE FOR THE COUNTY AND TO PROVIDE FOR HIS JURISDICTION, POWERS, AND DUTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

District 8 magistrate designated magistrate-at-large for Horry

County

SECTION 1. The office of magistrate of District 8 (Bayboro) in Horry County is designated as a magistrate-at-large for the county. His office must be located in the Horry County Court House Complex. He has countywide criminal and civil jurisdiction and must be available at all hours during the periods when other magistrates' offices are customarily open. He shall permit the trial before him of any cause, but upon the approval and acceptance of an adequate bond, he shall transfer the cause, together with the bond and warrant, if any, to a magistrate having proper jurisdiction. He shall take the usual oath of office taken by other magistrates in the county and post a surety bond in the amount of ten thousand dollars with the Clerk of Court for Horry County, the cost of which must be paid by Horry County. The compensation of the magistrate-at-large must be set by the governing body of the county.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
