AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 583 OF 1980, RELATING TO THE ANNUAL COOPER RIVER BRIDGE RUN SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE CLOSING OF THE GRACE MEMORIAL BRIDGE FROM SEVEN THIRTY A.M. TO TEN A.M. ON THE FIRST SATURDAY IN APRIL INSTEAD OF FROM NINE A.M. TO NO LATER THAN ELEVEN A.M. ON THE LAST SATURDAY IN MARCH OF EACH YEAR.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Bridge must be closed

SECTION 1. Section 1 of Act 583 of 1980 is amended to read:

"Section 1. The Grace Memorial Bridge in Charleston County must be closed by the Department of Highways and Public Transportation from seven thirty a.m. to ten a.m. on the first Saturday in April of each year so that those participating in the annual Cooper River Bridge Run may cross the bridge in a safe manner. The Department of Highways and Public Transportation, the City of Charleston, the Town of Mt. Pleasant, and the organizers and sponsors of the run are immune from liability except for gross negligence from incidents arising from participation in or association with the run."

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
