AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 8-11-40, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO SICK LEAVE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EMPLOYEES MAY USE NOT MORE THAN FIVE DAYS OF SICK LEAVE ANNUALLY TO CARE FOR ILL MEMBERS OF THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES AND TO DEFINE "IMMEDIATE FAMILY".

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Use of sick leave

SECTION 1. Section 8-11-40 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding at the end:

"Employees earning sick leave as provided in this section may use not more than five days of sick leave annually to care for ill members of their immediate families. For purposes of this paragraph, 'immediate family' means a spouse and children."

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
