AN ACT TO REAUTHORIZE THE STATE BOARD OF VETERINARY MEDICAL EXAMINERS FOR SIX YEARS; AND TO AMEND SECTION 40-69-30, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE MEMBERSHIP AND QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF THE BOARD, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE BOARD INSTEAD OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA VETERINARIANS' ASSOCIATION SHALL CONDUCT AN ELECTION TO NOMINATE PERSONS TO THE BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Board reauthorized

SECTION 1. The State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is reauthorized for six years.

Membership of board

SECTION 2. The fourth paragraph of Section 40-69-30 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"The veterinarian at large and consumer advocate member must be appointed by the Governor. The Board shall conduct an election to nominate two veterinarians to represent any congressional district when the seat is vacant. The election shall provide for participation by all veterinarians currently licensed and residing in South Carolina. The names of the nominees must be forwarded to the Governor by the Board and the Governor shall appoint one of the nominees as the member. The Governor may reject any or all of the nominees upon satisfactory showing as to the unfitness of those rejected. If the Governor declines to appoint any of the nominees so submitted, additional nominees must be submitted in the same manner."

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
