AN ACT TO PROVIDE A METHOD FOR FILLING VACANCIES ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS 55 AND 56.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

School district boards 55, 56; Laurens County; filling vacancies

SECTION 1. A vacancy which occurs on the Board of Trustees of Laurens County School Districts 55 and 56 must be filled by a special election in the district where the vacancy occurs. The special election must be called within 30 days of the vacancy and must be conducted pursuant to the applicable provisions of Act No. 779 of 1988. However, if the vacancy occurs less than one year before the end of the term of the district's seat, the remaining board members may elect a person to serve the remainder of the term.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
