AN ACT TO RATIFY AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 24, ARTICLE V OF THE CONSTITUTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1895, RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS, PROSECUTORS, ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS, AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY MAY PROVIDE BY LAW FOR THE AGE AND QUALIFICATIONS OF SHERIFFS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Constitutional amendment ratified

SECTION 1. The amendment to Section 24, Article V of the Constitution of South Carolina, 1895, prepared under the terms of Joint Resolution 688 of 1988, having been submitted to the qualified electors at the general election of 1988 as prescribed in Section 1 of Article XVI of the Constitution of South Carolina, 1895, and a favorable vote having been received on the amendment, is ratified and declared to be a part of the Constitution so that the second paragraph of Section 24 of Article V is amended to read:

"The General Assembly may also provide by law for the age and qualifications of sheriffs and the selection, duties, and compensation of other appropriate officials to enforce the criminal laws of the State, to prosecute persons under these laws, and to carry on the administrative functions of the courts of the State."
