AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-6140, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO MAIL MOVING TRAFFIC CHARGES AGAINST AN UNEMANCIPATED MINOR TO HIS PARENT OR GUARDIAN, SO AS TO DELETE THE REFERENCE TO AN UNEMANCIPATED MINOR, TO PROVIDE FOR THE SECTION TO APPLY TO A PERSON UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE, TO REQUIRE THE NOTICE TO BE MAILED TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND TO DELETE NOTICE TO THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Notice of moving traffic charges; requirements revised

SECTION 1. Section 56-5-6140 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 56-5-6140. The South Carolina Department of Highways and Public Transportation, within ten days after notice of a moving traffic violation by a person under the age of eighteen years, shall mail a copy of the charges to the owner of the vehicle used in the violation."

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
