AN ACT TO DESIGNATE HIGHWAY 57 WHERE IT JOINS HIGHWAY 9 EAST IN THE CITY OF DILLON UNTIL IT REACHES S.C. HIGHWAY 41 THE "J.E. LOCKEMY HIGHWAY", AND TO PROVIDE FOR A SUITABLE DEDICATION CEREMONY AND THE INSTALLATION OF APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ON THE HIGHWAY.

Whereas, the Honorable James Edward Lockemy has efficiently served Dillon County and the State of South Carolina as a skillful legislator; and

Whereas, since 1983 he has represented the citizens of House District 55 in Dillon County with dedication and distinction; and

Whereas, he has been elected a member of the state's judiciary and shortly will undertake duties as a circuit judge; and

Whereas, the General Assembly believes that his unselfish service to the citizens of Dillon County and the State of South Carolina as a member of the Legislature deserves public recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Highway named; ceremony; markers, signs

SECTION 1. Highway 57 where it joins Highway 9 East in the City of Dillon until it reaches S.C. Highway 41 is designated the "J. E. Lockemy Highway". The Department of Highways and Public Transportation shall plan and conduct a suitable dedication ceremony and install appropriate markers or signs at places on the highway containing the words "J. E. Lockemy Highway".

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
