Whereas, the South Carolina Water Resources Commission has designated a portion of the Little Pee Dee River as eligible for scenic river designation as prescribed by Chapter 29, Title 49, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, the "South Carolina Scenic Rivers Act of 1989", and ratification of the designation by the General Assembly is required before the designation takes effect. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Portion of Little Pee Dee River designated a scenic river

SECTION 1. That portion of the Little Pee Dee River located between the Highway 378 bridge crossing of the Little Pee Dee River and the confluence of the river with the Great Pee Dee River is designated a scenic river and subject to the provisions of Chapter 29, Title 49, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976.

Camping encouraged at scenic rivers

SECTION 2. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 49-29-220. To the extent practicable and consistent with the objectives of this chapter to preserve and maintain scenic rivers, camping activities are encouraged to be included in the comprehensive management plans of all classes of scenic rivers when that activity does not interfere with the rights retained by the titleholders or detract from the natural scenic qualities of the land."

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
