AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 916 OF 1970, RELATING TO THE BOILING SPRINGS FIRE DISTRICT IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE EMPLOYMENT OF FIREMEN AND OTHER EMPLOYEES IN ADDITION TO SELECTING VOLUNTEER FIREMEN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Boiling Springs Fire District board duties

SECTION 1. Section 3 of Act 916 of 1970 is amended to read:

"Section 3. The board shall:

(1) buy fire-fighting equipment necessary to control fires within the funds allocated or made available to the board;

(2) select the location within the area where the fire-fighting equipment is kept;

(3) employ firemen and other employees and select the drivers and volunteer firemen to man the equipment and carry out the responsibilities delegated by the board;

(4) supervise the training of the firemen employed and volunteers selected to ensure that the equipment is utilized for the best interest of the area;

(5) maintain, repair, and inspect the trucks and other fire-fighting equipment;

(6) promulgate rules to ensure that the equipment is being used to the best advantage of the area;

(7) construct buildings necessary to house the equipment authorized by this act;

(8) borrow not exceeding twenty thousand dollars on terms and for a period determined by the board to be beneficial for the fire district in anticipation of taxes. The indebtedness must be evidenced by a note issued by the members of the board and the county treasurer. The full faith and taxing power of the Boiling Springs Fire District is irrevocably pledged for the payment of the indebtedness."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
