AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 4 OF ACT 199 OF 1971, RELATING TO THE TERMS OF THE BOARD OF FIRE CONTROL FOR THE NORTH GREENVILLE FIRE DISTRICT, SO AS TO REDUCE THE TERMS FROM SIX YEARS TO FOUR YEARS BEGINNING WITH THE SUCCESSORS OF THE CURRENT BOARD AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE BOARD TO HEAR PETITIONS AND PUBLIC CONCERNS ON A PERIODIC BASIS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Terms of North Greenville Fire District board members reduced

SECTION 1. Section 4(A) of Act 199 of 1971, as last amended by Act 271 of 1987, is further amended to read:

"(A) There is established a Board of Fire Control for the North Greenville Fire District to be composed of five members who are elected for terms of four years beginning with the general election of 1990. The terms of the current members of the board are extended until successors are elected and qualify in the general election following the expiration of the current terms."

Board duties expanded

SECTION 2. Section 5(f) of Act 199 of 1971 is amended to read:

"(f) To promulgate rules and regulations it considers proper and necessary to ensure that the equipment is being used to the best advantage of the area and also to hear on a periodic basis concerns and petitions from the public."

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
