AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING ARTICLE 30 TO CHAPTER 3, TITLE 56, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR TEMPORARY LICENSE PLATES AND CERTIFICATES OF REGISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES USED ONLY FOR CORPORATE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 3, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Article 30

Temporary License Plates and

Certificates of Registration of Motor

Vehicles Used Only for Corporate

Research and Development

Section 56-3-2710. The Department of Highways and Public Transportation upon request and subject to the limitations and conditions set forth in this article shall provide temporary license plates and registration certificates to a corporation for motor vehicles used solely for research and development.

Section 56-3-2720. The fee for each set of temporary license plates and registration certificates is ten dollars. Application for the plates and certificates must be made to the department on forms it prescribes and furnishes.

Section 56-3-2730. The temporary license plates and registration certificates must be designed by the department. On the face of each plate must be imprinted the date of issuance, the date of expiration, the make and identification number of the vehicle, and other information the department requires.

Section 56-3-2740. The temporary license plate and registration certificate may be used only for the vehicle for which it is issued and must not be transferred, loaned, or assigned to any other vehicle. They are valid for one hundred twenty days from the date of issuance, but they may be renewed by the department.

Section 56-3-2750. The department shall promulgate regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this article.

Section 56-3-2760. A person who violates the provisions of this article is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than two hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty days."
