A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 38-71-215 SO AS TO REQUIRE PROVISIONS FOR PAYMENTS FOR MAMMOGRAMS IN POLICIES OR CONTRACTS OF HEALTH INSURANCE AND REQUIRE THE CHIEF INSURANCE COMMISSIONER TO PROMULGATE RELATED REGULATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 38-71-215. A policy or contract of health insurance issued in this State must include a provision for payment for routine and diagnostic mammograms. The Chief Insurance Commissioner shall promulgate regulations to establish minimum standards for benefits under this section."

SECTION 2. Section 38-71-215 of the 1976 Code added in Section 1 of this act applies to policies and contracts of health insurance issued after December 31, 1992.

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval of the Governor.
