A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LAURENS DISTRICT 55 HIGH SCHOOL "RAIDERS" ON WINNING THE STATE AAAA DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were delighted to learn that the Laurens District 55 High School "Raiders" football team won a dramatic State AAAA Division 2 Championship on December 7, 1991; and

Whereas, in this heart stopping finish to a Cinderella season, the Laurens "Raiders" defeated the Lower Richland "Diamonds" by a score of 28-27; and

Whereas, the victory culminated with a magic reception by Charles Peterson of a Ronnie Cain desperation throw with three seconds remaining and gave the "Raiders", along with the extra point, the necessary margin for winning the state championship; and

Whereas, this scrappy Laurens defensive team would bend throughout this classic battle, but it would not yield at the crucial times thwarting the huge "Diamond" offensive line averaging nearly two hundred eight pounds; and

Whereas, Laurens Coach, Bobby Ivey, is commended for his outstanding motivational and coaching abilities in shepherding this team to victory. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Laurens District 55 High School "Raiders" on winning the State AAAA Division 2 Football Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Bobby Ivey.
