A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-25-25 SO AS TO PROVIDE A TIME REQUIREMENT FOR NOTIFICATION BY THE DRIVER LICENSING AUTHORITY OF A COMPACT JURISDICTION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OF A TRAFFIC CITATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-25-25. If the driver licensing authority of a compact jurisdiction does not notify the department that a resident of South Carolina or a person possessing a valid South Carolina driver's license has received a traffic citation in the compact jurisdiction within six months of the citation, the citation must not be enforced in South Carolina."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
