A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MS. LAURIE ANNE TOWNSEND OF ANDERSON FOR HER MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS, HER ACADEMIC HONORS, AND HER EXEMPLARY VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND TO RECOGNIZE THE DEDICATION AND HARD WORK PRESENT IN ALL HER ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Laurie Anne Townsend of Anderson, South Carolina, is the daughter of our good friend and colleague, Ronald P. Townsend, and his wife Patricia; and

Whereas, Ms. Townsend is a remarkable young woman and an outstanding student at Belton-Honea Path High School who has been honored in many ways for her academic achievements and her leadership ability; and

Whereas, she is vice-president of the Belton-Honea Path National Honor Society and secretary of the school's National Beta Club; and

Whereas, she was selected to attend the Governor's School for Academics at the College of Charleston in the summer of 1990 where she studied bio-medical science; and

Whereas, she is a dedicated volunteer performing services at school including tutoring and newspaper staff work and in the community where she serves as a candy striper and is involved in many church activities; and

Whereas, she is vice-president of the Keywannettes, a service organization which, among other projects, adopted and helped provide food and clothing for a needy family; and

Whereas, she is well-liked and respected by her peers and has been selected by the senior class as the "Most Intellectual Female"; and

Whereas, the faculty has recognized Ms. Townsend's contributions by selecting her as a contestant in the Miss Belton-Honea Path pageant; and

Whereas, she has recently been honored for her outstanding service and many talents by being selected as the Belton-Honea Path High School candidate for the "Awards for Excellence" citizenship scholarship; and

Whereas, Ms. Townsend has achieved these accomplishments and performed long hours of volunteer service through dedication, hard work, and the support of her parents and family; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Ms. Laurie Townsend for her many accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend Ms. Laurie Anne Townsend of Anderson for her many accomplishments, her academic honors, and her exemplary volunteer service and recognize the dedication and hard work present in all her endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Townsend and her parents, the Honorable and Mrs. Ronald P. Townsend.
