TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE A & W STARR 12 AND UNDER BASKETBALL TEAM OF ANDERSON COUNTY AND THEIR COACHES UPON WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the A & W Starr 12 and Under Basketball Team has only six young men; and
Whereas, these boys spent many days of practice and preparation for the Amateur Athletic Union Championship; and
Whereas, the six players, under the leadership of their coaches, Wayne Alexander and Greg Taylor, overcame odds to win against larger, more seasoned teams; and
Whereas, the team is the first boys AAU team from Anderson County to win a state title; and
Whereas, the team will represent South Carolina in the National Amateur Athletic Union Tournament against sixty-three other AAU teams from the United States; and
Whereas, these boys have already started raising funds for the trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, July 10-July 18, 1992; and
Whereas, these boys have demonstrated their good work ethics at school and play, staying drug free, and never giving up on their dreams; and
Whereas, Craig Alexander, Devon Groves, Will Hellams, Clay Huggins, Ryan Scarborough, and William Strobhart possess character traits that all South Carolinians can be proud of. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the members of the A & W Starr 12 and Under Basketball Team of Anderson County and their coaches upon winning the South Carolina State Amateur Athletic Union Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to each team member and their coaches.
