CONGRATULATING UNION HIGH SCHOOL ON CAPTURING ITS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE NATIONAL SHOOTING CROWN BY WINNING THE SCHOLASTIC CATEGORY OF THE 1992 NATIONAL NRA JUNIOR THREE POSITION SMALLBORE RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Whereas, Union High School, fielding its youngest team ever, captured its fourth straight, and fifth overall, national shooting crown by winning the scholastic category of the 1992 National NRA Junior Three Position Smallbore Rifle Championships; and
Whereas, "juniors" in the competition are persons age twenty and younger; and
Whereas, the Union team members were sophomores Talmadge (Tal) Wilkins, IV, and Jeff Vaughan, freshman Brian Newton, and eighth grade shooter Rob Toney; and
Whereas, with four past National Individual JROTC Champions to its credit, Union won its fifth in the last six years as Tal Wilkins won the 1992 National Individual JROTC Smallbore Rifle Championship; and
Whereas, in addition to success on the firing line, the Union High shooting club has won seven NRA President's Awards and six Most Improved Club Awards since 1983 -- more than any of the NRA's some other 15,000 affiliated clubs during the same period; and
Whereas, Union High School's success in this area has been phenomenal, and the shooting team has brought recognition and honor to the entire State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, all South Carolinians are genuinely proud of the team's accomplishments, which are greatly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina by this resolution, congratulates Union High School on capturing its fourth consecutive national shooting crown by winning the scholastic category of the 1992 National NRA Junior Three Position Smallbore Rifle Championships.
