A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE BROADCAST AND PRINT MEDIA OF THIS STATE FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING COVERAGE OF OPERATION DESERT SHIELD AND OPERATION DESERT STORM, AND FOR THEIR COMMUNITY EFFORTS IN SUPPORTING THE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES FROM SOUTH CAROLINA SERVING IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND THEIR FAMILIES.

Whereas, the events leading up to the military action taken against Iraq on Wednesday, January 16, 1991, and the series of events since that time have required the news media of this State to exert extraordinary efforts to report these events on a timely and accurate basis; and

Whereas, both the broadcast and print media in South Carolina have done a tremendous job of keeping the citizens of this State informed about the events unfolding in the Middle East; and

Whereas, in addition to its regular coverage, the news media in numerous localities has gone to great lengths to let those persons who have loved ones serving in Saudi Arabia know that all South Carolinians care and support them in this time of anxiety; and

Whereas, one example of these unselfish, humanitarian gestures has been the community service rendered by WMXT-FM Radio in Florence; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize the news media of South Carolina for their very professional coverage of these events and thank them for their community and public service efforts. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby commend the broadcast and print media of this State for their outstanding coverage of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, and for their community efforts in supporting the members of the Armed Forces from South Carolina serving in the Middle East and their families.
