A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE SOUTHERN INTERSCHOLASTIC PRESS ASSOCIATION (SIPA), ITS MEMBERS, AND OFFICERS DURING ITS SIXTY-SIXTH ANNUAL CONVENTION AND ITS NINETEENTH YEAR UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP OF THE COLLEGE OF JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, student president of the Southern Interscholastic Press Association, Robin Lesser, and her fellow student officers have continued a tradition of active, creative leadership during their positions for the 1990-91 school year; and

Whereas, SIPA chairman, Rik McNeill, and his SIPA Executive Committee have brought SIPA towards the conclusion of another successful year as a first-class scholastic organization by devoting time and talent to something they believe in; and

Whereas, Joseph Shoquist, who is to retire as SIPA director and Dean of the College in June, 1991, has brought SIPA five years of excellence in leadership; and

Whereas, the delegates to the sixty-sixth annual convention represent practitioners of quality scholastic journalism and, whether in the capacity as advisers or students, represent those in positions to make this world a better place for all; and

Whereas, by promoting interest in journalism among students, SIPA continues to fulfill its purpose; and

Whereas, SIPA is of invaluable assistance to young people in their future lives and careers, whether or not they go on to become professional journalists. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend the Southern Interscholastic Press Association (SIPA), its members, and officers, during its sixty-sixth annual convention and its nineteenth year under the sponsorship of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Joseph Shoquist.
