whereas, she was one of sixty people across the country to receive the Citation for Service Award signed by President Bush. She was chosen out of more than three thousand five hundred nominees, according to Voluntary Action Center Director Leslie Davis. "It's personal recognition from the president, mainly for her work on behalf of the education system," Ms. Davis said; and

Whereas, the East Cooper area representative on the school board, Mrs. Hawk has been a primary force in developing the Cities in Schools program in which high school students at risk of dropping out attend a special off-campus school. Mrs. Hawk also has been chairman of the board for the Juvenile Restitution Program; and

Whereas, the Lowcountry Volunteer of the Year Awards honored more than one hundred thirty of the trident area's volunteers during the ceremony at the Dock Street Theatre. "These special people freely give their time and talents to the community to help make it a better place for all of us," Ms. Davis said. Now, therefore,
