TO CONGRATULATE FRAN S. HAWK OF CHARLESTON UPON RECEIVING A PRESIDENTIAL CITATION FOR SERVICE AWARD DURING THE LOWCOUNTRY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS CEREMONY SPONSORED BY THE TRIDENT UNITED WAY.
Whereas, Fran S. Hawk of Charleston received a Presidential Citation for Service Award during the Lowcountry Volunteer of the Year awards ceremony sponsored by the Trident United Way; and
Whereas, Mrs. Hawk, a Charleston County School Board member, has worked for a variety of civic organizations; and
whereas, she was one of sixty people across the country to receive the Citation for Service Award signed by President Bush. She was chosen out of more than three thousand five hundred nominees, according to Voluntary Action Center Director Leslie Davis. "It's personal recognition from the president, mainly for her work on behalf of the education system," Ms. Davis said; and
Whereas, the East Cooper area representative on the school board, Mrs. Hawk has been a primary force in developing the Cities in Schools program in which high school students at risk of dropping out attend a special off-campus school. Mrs. Hawk also has been chairman of the board for the Juvenile Restitution Program; and
Whereas, the Lowcountry Volunteer of the Year Awards honored more than one hundred thirty of the trident area's volunteers during the ceremony at the Dock Street Theatre. "These special people freely give their time and talents to the community to help make it a better place for all of us," Ms. Davis said. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Fran S. Hawk of Charleston upon receiving a Presidential Citation for Service Award during the Lowcountry Volunteer of the Year awards ceremony sponsored by the Trident United Way.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Hawk.
