TO REQUEST THAT ALL STATE AGENCIES, INCLUDING THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, PURSUE AN ECONOMIC COURSE AND CONSTRUCT AN ECONOMIC FOUNDATION FOR THE STATE'S ECONOMY WHICH ARE BASED ON TOURISM, ON AGRICULTURE, ON THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PROMOTION OF CLEAN, TECHNOLOGICALLY ORIENTED MANUFACTURING AND SERVICE ENTERPRISES, AND ON THE ATTRACTION OF RETIREES AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES.
Whereas, it is recognized by this General Assembly that the land and the environment of South Carolina are this state's greatest economic assets; and
Whereas, a course to preserve these assets is not compatible with any policy or practice which allows for the disposal or containment within South Carolina of any nuclear or hazardous industrial waste which is not generated within our own borders. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request that all state agencies, including the Office of the Governor, pursue an economic course and construct an economic foundation for the state's economy which are based on tourism, on agriculture, on the encouragement and promotion of clean, technologically oriented manufacturing and service enterprises, and on the attraction of retirees and the encouragement of retirement communities.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr., and all department heads in South Carolina State Government.
