A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE OF FLORENCE POLICE CHIEF WAYMON MUMFORD ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND WISHING FOR HIM MANY HAPPY AND FULFILLING YEARS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Florence Police Chief Waymon Mumford will be retiring in May, 1994, after twenty-five years' service with the Florence Police Department; and

Whereas, Chief Mumford who has held that position for the last three years has set an example of outstanding police work going back to the beginning of his career with the department, a career that through his hard work and dedication and encouragement of others led to steady promotion throughout the years, culminating with his achieving the top law enforcement job in the city; and

Whereas, Chief Mumford's "people skills" have served him in good stead, bringing the qualities of perseverance, patience, and common sense to an extremely sensitive position; and

Whereas, these people skills have also been of invaluable assistance in his work in community organizations and in his church; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize the splendid service to the field of law enforcement of so distinguished a son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation to Florence Police Chief Waymon Mumford for his twenty-five years of outstanding service with the Florence Police Department on the occasion of his retirement and wish for him many, many happy and fulfilling years in this next stage of his life.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief Mumford.
