A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING JOHN W. FLING OF COLUMBIA ON BEING NAMED THE "1994 OUTSTANDING OLDER SOUTH CAROLINIAN".

Whereas, John Wesley Fling of Columbia, seventy-two years young, has been named the "1994 Outstanding Older South Carolinian" by the Governor's Office, Division on Aging, for his lifelong service of helping others; and

Whereas, to thousands of underprivileged children, John Fling is the Everyday Santa Claus, and to countless others, both young and old, he is the quintessential Good Samaritan; and

Whereas, his religious convictions are genuine because he practices them every moment of every day; and

Whereas, he never turns away from someone in need because he knows that it is always possible to provide help somehow; and

Whereas, he is a role model in his community, for his energy, dedication, imagination, and determination have enabled thousands of persons to have a little bit easier go of things, to feel a little less burdened, and to know a happier Christmas season than they would have otherwise; and

Whereas, his active lifestyle proves that anyone of any age -- young, older, or in-between -- can have an enjoyable, fulfilling life; and

Whereas, he is truly outstanding, as the title bestowed on him indicates, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate John W. Fling of Columbia on being named the "1994 Outstanding Older South Carolinian".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to John W. Fling.
