A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF DR. WILLIAM CHILDS CANTEY OF COLUMBIA, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Dr. William Childs Cantey of Columbia died on July 6, 1992, at the age of eighty-two; and

Whereas, Dr. Cantey received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina and his medical doctor's degree from the Medical University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he practiced general surgery in Columbia for thirty years and, in 1976, became medical director of the South Carolina Medical Care Foundation; and

Whereas, he was past president of the South Carolina State Fair, a founding member of the City Planning Commission for the City of Columbia, and served on the Senior Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral; and

Whereas, he was extremely civic-minded, having devoted his time, talents, and energy to numerous causes, and he was highly distinguished in his chosen profession, having been formally recognized by his medical colleagues in various ways on numerous occasions; and

Whereas, Dr. Cantey was an outstanding individual who was known, respected, and admired across the State and who will be missed very much; and Whereas, we want his family and his many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Dr. William Childs Cantey of Columbia and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Cantey's family.
