A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING BISHOP OREE BROOMFIELD, SR., FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN WORKING TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL AMERICANS.

Whereas, Bishop Oree Broomfield, Sr., answered the call to the ministry in 1950 and has been Bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District since 1992; and

Whereas, Bishop Broomfield received his bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi Industrial College, Holly Springs, Mississippi, his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Gammon Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Phillips University; and

Whereas, he has been a devoted and hard-working minister for the past forty-three years and has served at a number of churches before his tenure at Cedar Creat CME Cathedral in Dallas, Texas, where he served until he was elected bishop; and

Whereas, he has been active in the civil rights movement, including participating in the Selma March, being jailed five times on behalf of the garbage workers of Oklahoma city, and serving as president of the local chapter of the NAACP of Oklahoma City; and

Whereas, he worked hard to increase the membership in the NAACP and on voter registration and has aided in the improvement of community relations. He is a gifted individual who has worked hard to make a difference. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Bishop Oree Broomfield, Sr., for his outstanding leadership in working to improve the quality of life for all Americans.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bishop Broomfield.
