A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE TEN STUDENTS FROM SIX GREENVILLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOLS WHO HAVE BEEN CHOSEN TO PLAY ON THE FIRST GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM THAT WILL SPEND TWO WEEKS IN BELGIUM WITH THE GREENVILLE SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS.

Whereas, ten students from six Greenville County high schools have been chosen to play on the first girls basketball team that will spend two weeks in Belgium with the Greenville Sister Cities International Program; and

Whereas, the ten girls selected to be on the team were interviewed by Sister Cities officials and chosen to be a part of the first girls team selected to go to Europe with Sister Cities; and

Whereas, the goal of the local Sister Cities Program is to introduce Greenville students to other cultures; and

Whereas, one of the two coaches who will take the trip, Cindy Mattos-Dehart, varsity basketball coach at Eastside High School, said: "Basketball is important in teaching team skills and working together, but it's not the number-one thing involving this trip"; and

Whereas, Ms. Mattos-Dehart and Kelly Moorhead of Wade Hampton High School will accompany the students to Kortrijk, Belgium, one of Greenville's two Sister Cities; and

Whereas, members of the team include: Jana Darby and Erin Olson of Riverside High; Braeton Dillon and Karen Neeley of Eastside High; Joni Dobson and Ashley Greene of Greer High; Daphne Michele Epting of Blue Ridge High; Rhonda Penelope James and Lovee McKinney of Southside High School; and Kelly Moorhead of Wade Hampton High School; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives commend these fine young ladies and their coaches for their accomplishments as they proudly represent their State and Nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize the ten students from six Greenville County high schools who have been chosen to play on the first girls basketball team that will spend two weeks in Belgium with the Greenville Sister Cities International Program and congragulate them for their achievements.
