A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL'S MODEL UNITED NATIONS TEAM FOR WINNING A FIRST PLACE GOLD MEDAL AWARD OF DISTINCTION AT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR DEDICATION, DILIGENCE, AND HARD WORK.

Whereas, Richland Northeast High School's Model United Nations National team was one of five teams that received a first place Gold Medal Award of Distinction at the National High School Model United Nations Conference in New York in March of 1993; and

Whereas, this is the fourth year in a row that the school's team has placed first and the school's fifth year overall placing first; and

Whereas, the team also won the competition's Research Award for the sixth time in the award's six-year history; and

Whereas, the eighteen-member team competed against nineteen hundred other students from one hundred fifty schools throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe; and

Whereas, the Model United Nation's competition measures the student's knowledge of foreign countries and international policy making and judges the delegates research and public speaking skills, as well as their ability to represent a particular country's views and to negotiate with other "nations" to bring about change; and

Whereas, the faculty adviser for the team is Lynn Washington and the team members are Douglas Brown, Alcide Honore, Larry Thompson, Eli Poliakoff, Laura Bundrick, Jerome Stover, Anne Knight, Jacob Greenberg, Lauren Griswold, Jennifer Wooten, Charlie Stalker, Merie Cobb, David Murray, Vivica Williams, Phoebe Wolfskill, Burke Adams, Mary Kathleen Tally, and Carrie Bundricks; and

Whereas, Ms. Washington and these students, who were the youngest team the school has sent to the competition having lost eleven seniors last year, should be congratulated for their dedication, diligence, and hard work and their families and friends commended for their assistance and unwavering support. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulates the Richland Northeast High School Model United Nations Team for receiving a first place Gold Medal Award of Distinction and first place Research Award at the National High School Model United Nations Conference and commends the team and its adviser, Lynn Washington, for their dedication, diligence, and hard work.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Lynn Washington, Richland Northeast High School, 7500 Brookfield Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29223.
