AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 445 OF 1947, AS AMENDED, THE SUPPLY BILL FOR HAMPTON COUNTY FOR FISCAL YEAR 1947-48, SO AS TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE HAMPTON GENERAL HOSPITAL FROM FIVE TO NINE MEMBERS AND TO REVISE AND DELETE OBSOLETE REFERENCES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Additional directors

SECTION 1. Section 25(a) of Act 445 of 1947, as last amended by Act 1018 of 1948, is further amended to read:

"(a) There is created an eleemosynary corporation known as The Hampton General Hospital with its principal place of business in the County of Hampton, State of South Carolina. The corporation shall have nine directors, who must be appointed by the Governor, upon the recommendation of the Hampton County legislative delegation, who shall serve for terms of five years and until their successors are appointed and qualify. The board of directors has the power of directors under the laws of this State and shall elect the officers and employees of the corporation considered essential for the proper conduct of the corporation. The directors shall have specific powers, in their discretion, to contract, by lease or otherwise, for the operation and maintenance of the hospital hereinafter referred to. A vacancy or vacancies by death, resignation, or otherwise on the board of directors must be filled in the manner of the original appointment for the unexpired portion of the term."

Initial terms

SECTION 2. Notwithstanding the five-year terms provided for members of the board of directors of the Hampton General Hospital, the initial terms for two of the four members added to the board by this act are for two years and until their successors are appointed and qualify. Thereafter, all board members shall serve for the term provided by law. The Governor shall note the terms on the appointments.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
