COMMENDING ELBRIDGE JUETTE (E.J.) WRIGHT, JR., OF ANDERSON COUNTY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION FROM 1989 TO 1994.
Whereas, Elbridge Juette (E.J.) Wright, Jr., of Anderson County is a graduate of Honea Path High School and of Clemson University with Highest Honors; and
Whereas, E.J. Wright, born at Belton, was a full-time farmer for many years, was named Outstanding Young Farmer by the South Carolina Junior Chamber of Commerce, served as a member of the South Carolina Cotton Board, and was the chairman of the Anderson County ASC-USDA Committee from 1968 to 1974; and
Whereas, Mr. Wright also served as executive director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture from 1974 to 1990; and
Whereas, he served as an elected member of the Board of Trustees of Anderson County School District 2 from 1973 to 1981 and as the board's chairman from 1979 to 1981; and
Whereas, he was elected a member of the Anderson County Board of Education where he served from 1981 to 1989; and
Whereas, he has been a member of the State Board of Education since 1989 and has served with great distinction in that capacity; and
Whereas, he is retiring from service on the State Board of Education in 1994, and the people of the State of South Carolina are greatly indebted to him for his leadership and hard work. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Elbridge Juette (E.J.) Wright, Jr., of Anderson County for his distinguished service as a member of the State Board of Education from 1989 to 1994.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Wright.
