COMMENDING STEVEN A. GANTT FOR HIS OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE IRMO CHAPIN RECREATION COMMISSION.
Whereas, Steven A. Gantt has been employed by the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission since 1971; and
Whereas, Mr. Gantt has held various positions of service with the commission, but since April, 1981, he has served as executive director, where he now supervises thirty-seven full-time employees and four hundred part-time employees and volunteers and administers an annual budget of 3.6 million dollars; and
Whereas, he developed the first comprehensive park school agreement in South Carolina; he received a national award for this document from the National Association of School Boards and the National Association of Counties; and
Whereas, he served as president of the South Carolina Recreation and Park Association from 1980 to 1981 and filled a vacancy in 1982; and
Whereas, he served as a member of the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism Commission from 1980 to 1982 and was chairman of the Southern Regional Council of the National Recreation and Park Association from 1985 to 1986; and
Whereas, he received the Recreator of the Year award for South Carolina in 1986; and
Whereas, Mr. Gantt is leaving the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission on May 1, 1994, after twenty-three years of devoted and outstanding public service there, including the last thirteen years as executive director; and
Whereas, he has been a dedicated, hard-working public official who has earned everyone's respect and admiration from the good job he has performed; and
Whereas, he is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Steven A. Gantt for his outstanding public service as executive director of the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gantt.
