COMMENDING ROBERT C. MCCUTCHEN, JR., OF LEE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF FOR THE BISHOPVILLE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO FIREFIGHTING AND FIRE PREVENTION FOR OVER HALF A CENTURY, AND WISHING HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Robert Calvin "Rob" McCutchen, Jr., of Lee County has been fighting fires for as long as he can remember; and
Whereas, Chief McCutchen officially joined the Bishopville Fire Department in 1940; and
Whereas, he joined the armed services at the outbreak of World War II and served with the Army Air Corps; and
Whereas, upon his return to Bishopville after the war, he once again became active with the fire department; and
Whereas, during his many years with the fire department, he has held every position from tailboard firefighter to assistant chief and has excelled in all positions; and
Whereas, in 1986, Chief McCutchen, at age sixty-four, completed Phase I, II, and III of the Interior Structural Firefighter Curriculum approved by the Department of Labor and implemented by the South Carolina Fire Academy; at that time, he was the oldest firefighter to accomplish this; and
Whereas, he has been an excellent and a truly dedicated public servant and is beloved by the community; and Whereas, now, at seventy-one years young, Chief McCutchen is retiring as Assistant Fire Chief for the Bishopville City Fire Department; and
Whereas, he is greatly deserving of recognition and commendation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Robert C. McCutchen, Jr., of Lee County for his outstanding service as Assistant Fire Chief for the Bishopville City Fire Department and for his commitment to firefighting and fire prevention for over half a century and wishes him success and happiness following his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief McCutchen.
